One Finger Death Punch is an action game developed and published by Silver Dollar Games. The game offers perhaps the clearest demonstration of the link between rhythm and combat yet seen in a video game. Set in a familiar-looking Kung Fu movie backdrop is your stick man warrior. He stands in the center of the screen while waves of aggressors come from his left or right. The order in which enemies come to you creates the fight’s rhythm. When an opponent advances within range, a quick tap of the corresponding button directs your fighter rushing forwards to land a sharp strike. There are about twenty one skills to collect. These are acquired by finishing special battles and up to three can be equipped at any given point. Their effects vary from adding shields to absorb the damage received whenever you leave yourself open to counterattack, to extending your attack distance for a period of time or providing you with new weapons. One Finger Death Punch introduces one fascinating uniqueness by increasing the game’s global speed each time you finish a battle successfully. However, the speed also drops whenever you lose a fight.
